How is enneagram compatibility calculated?
Enneagram compatibility here scores two types from 1 to 9 using the shape of the enneagram diagram itself, with points we chose. Nine types sit around a circle. Neighbors on the circle are each other's wings, and 9 and 1 count as neighbors. Inside the circle, lines join 1–7–5–8–2–4–1 and 3–6–9. The types also fall into three centers: gut (8, 9, 1), heart (2, 3, 4) and head (5, 6, 7).
Every pair starts at 62. An inner line between the two types adds 20, being wings adds 16 and sharing a center adds 8. That puts the top score, 90, on the two pairs joined by a line inside one center: 2 with 4 and 5 with 7. Two people of the same type get 76 — an upper-middle mirror, not the top. Pairs with no line, no wing and different centers stay at 62.
We use only the public diagram; the type sketches are our own and the scoring is not taken from any book or test. If you are not sure of your type, pick the line that sounds closest. It is a conversation starter, not an assessment and not a science.
Frequently asked questions
Is enneagram compatibility scientific?
No. The enneagram is not a scientific personality model, and this score is our own design: points for the diagram's wings, inner lines and centers. It is a fun way to compare two types, and the same pair always gets the same score.
What if I don't know my enneagram type?
Pick the one-line sketch that sounds most like you. They are short on purpose and written by us, so the result is a playful guess rather than a test result — try your second guess too and compare.
Which enneagram types are most compatible?
In our scoring the top 90% goes to the 2 pairs joined by an inner line inside one center: 2 + 4, 5 + 7. Next come wing pairs in the same center at 86%.
