How to write Ruth in Korean
루스
- 루ru
- 스seu
2 syllables · Spelled by the National Institute of Korean Language's rules for foreign names.
Why it sounds a little different
- Korean doesn't stack consonants, so a short “eu” (ㅡ) slips in — that's where 스 comes from.
- TH has no Korean letter. It's usually ㅅ (s), sometimes ㄷ (d) or ㅌ (t).
- R and L share one letter, ㄹ — Korean doesn't tell them apart.
Say it in Korean
제 이름은 루스예요.
Je ireumeun ruseu-yeyo. — My name is Ruth.
To be polite, Koreans add 씨 (ssi) after a name: 루스 씨.
