Checkers

Checkers

Classic draughts vs a sharp AI or a friend. Jumps are forced.

How to play

Pieces move one square diagonally forward on the dark squares. Jump over an opponent's piece into the empty square behind it to capture it. If you can capture, you must.

After a capture, if the same piece can capture again, it keeps jumping. A piece that reaches the far row becomes a king and can move and capture backward too, one square at a time. A capture that crowns a king ends the turn.

You win when your opponent has no pieces left or no legal move. Your record against the AI is the total number of moves in a game you won. Fewer is better.

MouseClick a piece, then a highlighted square.

Tips & strategy

  • Keep pieces on your back row as long as you can. An empty back row is a free road to a king for the other side.
  • Captures are forced, so you can bait: give up one piece to make the opponent jump into a spot where you take two.
  • Trade pieces when you're ahead. Fewer pieces on the board makes your lead count for more.
  • Kings move and capture backward. Getting the first king usually decides the game.
