Which Korean Traditional Color Are You?
Indigo, scarlet or azalea pink? Seven scenes, one color with a story.
Korean tradition names its colors after what made them: indigo leaves, gardenia fruit, gromwell root, pine-soot ink, undyed hemp. This quiz asks seven everyday questions and picks the traditional color that matches your personality — not your skin tone; it isn't a personal color analysis. Each color has its own page on where it comes from and what it meant.
The eight Korean traditional colors
- Indigo쪽빛Deep blue from indigo leaves — calm and loyal.
- Scarlet다홍Bright bridal red — bold and festive.
- Gardenia Yellow치자색Warm yellow from gardenia fruit — sunny and generous.
- Ink Black먹색Black of brush ink — quiet, focused, artistic.
- Undyed White소색The natural color of undyed cloth — simple and honest.
- Spring Green연두The green of new leaves — fresh and curious.
- Purple자주Deep red-purple from gromwell root — dignified.
- Azalea Pink분홍Pink of mountain azaleas — gentle and romantic.
How does the Korean traditional color quiz decide?
Each of the seven questions has four answers, and each answer gives points to two of the eight colors — two points to the one it fits best, one to a close neighbor. The color with the most points wins; a tie is settled by your answer string, so the same answers always give the same color.
Five of the colors come from obangsaek (오방색), the traditional five cardinal colors — blue, red, yellow, white and black — linked to the directions and the five elements; the in-between colors are called ogansaek (오간색). The quiz reads personality only, not your skin, hair or eyes.
