How to write Elif in Korean
Elif in Korean is 엘리프 (el-li-peu).
엘리프
- 엘el
- 리li
- 프peu
3 syllables · Spelled by the National Institute of Korean Language's rules for foreign names.
Why it sounds a little different
- Korean doesn't stack consonants, so a short “eu” (ㅡ) slips in — that's where 프 comes from.
- Korean has no F. It's written ㅍ (p), so the F in Elif comes out as a soft P.
- R and L share one letter, ㄹ — Korean doesn't tell them apart.
Say it in Korean
제 이름은 엘리프예요.
Je ireumeun ellipeu-yeyo. — My name is Elif.
To be polite, Koreans add 씨 (ssi) after a name: 엘리프 씨.
