How is MBTI friendship compatibility calculated?

MBTI friendship compatibility here scores two four-letter types with a rule we designed for friends, separate from our love match. Every pair starts at 46 and each letter adds points. Sharing S or N matters most (+18, or +2 if different), because what friends talk about is what keeps them close. Sharing E or I adds +14 (+6 if different): two homebodies or two party people agree on what a fun Friday is. Different J and P add +10 (+6 if the same), since trips go better with one planner and one person who says yes. Sharing T or F adds +8 (+4 if different) for a similar way of handling drama.

That puts every pair between 64 and 96. Your highest friend score is always the type that differs from you only in J/P, and two people of the same type land at 92 — close, but not the top. The result card adds a one-liner from each type's friend-group role, where the pair ranks on your list, and a question to settle together.

This is a playful rule, not an official MBTI product or a study of real friendships. If you are unsure of a letter, the score means even less. Only the two types go into the result link.

Frequently asked questions

Is MBTI friendship compatibility scientific?

No. The friend score is a rule we designed ourselves — four letters, fixed points — not an official MBTI product, a published chart or a study. It is a fun way to talk about how two friends tick, and the same pair always gets the same score.

Which MBTI types make the best friends?

In our rule the top score, 96%, goes to pairs that share three letters and differ only in J/P, such as INTJ + INTP. There are 8 such pairs out of the 136 possible type pairs.

How is this different from MBTI love compatibility?

Our love match rewards opposite E/I and T/F; the friendship rule rewards sharing them, and prefers opposite J/P. So the same two types can score very differently: INTJ and ENFJ get 99% as a couple but 80% as friends.
