Color personality
Ochre
The oldest friend anyone has.
Ochre is the warm yellow-brown of iron-rich earth, and as a personality it's the grounded one: steady in a crisis, good with old stories and the friend whose door is always open.

It's you if…
- You've had the same best friend, barber and favorite mug for years.
- When plans fall apart, people look at you and calm down.
- You'd pick a campfire over a club every single time.
The surprise
Ochres are more adventurous than they look. The person who loves routine is often the first to sign up for a week-long hike with no phone signal.

Ochre is iron-rich earth, and it is probably the oldest pigment people have used. At Blombos Cave in South Africa, archaeologists found a 100,000-year-old ochre workshop: two abalone shells holding a mixed ochre paste, with the grinding stones still beside them (Henshilwood and colleagues, 2011).

Iron oxides in the earth. Yellow ochre contains hydrated iron oxide; heating it turns it red, which is how red ochre can be made.
